Flower Girl
I keep thinking fall/winter is coming but we keep having really warm days. I found this little project and thought we would take advantage of the fall colors that are out there before they get freeze dried soon when winter comes. We cruised through the vegetable garden, flower beds, and yard and picked up our miscellaneous pieces.
Hannah had fun ripping and cutting apart the flowers and then sticking all the piece to the crown. We fitted the crown on her head and then she couldn't get enough looking at the "pretty crown" in the mirror.
She wasn't willing to give out a real smile today. This is the best I could get.

For those of you with boys, I'm sure some leaves and grasses could make for some nice "manly" crowns.

Depressing Reality
“Only half of American adults have read a book since leaving high school.”- Random House
This is hard for me to believe! If this quote is really true it is no wonder our country is in trouble in many ways. The teacher in me today challenges you to pick up a book and read it. (My Mom would be proud to hear me say this since I didn't LOVE to read as a kid.) Better yet pick up a book yourself and encourage someone else to do it too.
My rant could go on for much longer but I will spare you the misery. Go stretch your brain today!
The quote is found in the book You Are One-Third Daffodil: And Other Facts to Amaze, Amuse, and Astound

1/2 Birthday
Helena is six months old today. I can't decide if it seems like we've had her forever or if it seems like just yesterday that we had her. I guess it really it feels like we have known her forever. We love her sweet disposition and laid back nature. She is bright but not quite as loud as her sister, which is OK with me.
When Hannah was 6 months old I made her a half birthday cake. Get it? It's half a birthday cake. Anyway, today is Helena's half birthday, so I made her a cake too. Hannah was excited to get to eat some of the half birthday cake this time. She ate more dinner than she has in a long time just to get some. Poor Helena is too little and missed out.
Sorry about the rather unappetizing picture. I guess I don't photograph chocolate cake well.

I also did a six month photo shoot with Helena this morning too. Here's a sample of what I got. Hopefully if I can remember I'll do a post with more six month pictures in it.

I'm A Sucker...
...for my little farm girl. For Christmas last year I really wanted to get Hannah a hay truck. It may sound silly but it's part of our life and she loves all things farm. On top of that Daddy spends a lot of time loading hay trucks. Yes, we have many dolls. She won't touch them.
Before Christmas I was talking to Ben about finding a toy hay truck. He assured me that they probably didn't exist and a little searching on the internet left me still wanting.
Yesterday we ran to town to get supplies for our window installers and pellets for the pellet stove. Well I can't go into Big R (farm supply store) and just walk up and get pellets. I have to look around a little bit. Boy was I ever glad that I did. I don't know who was more excited, Hannah or I, to see a Peterbilt Hay Truck in the toy isle. SCORE!! They also had a truck with a cattle pot but I had to draw the line somewhere. So needless to say we left with the hay truck and she begged for it all the way home.
Never in her short little lifetime has she wanted a toy so badly once we got back into the pickup. She loves it has been spending most of her days playing with it. At less than $10 it's the best money I've spent on her in quite awhile.
Now if I could just teacher how to hook the trailer up by herself!

The Fair So Far
Our local fair started this week. I told myself that I wasn't going to go every day like I have in the past. With two kids I have found it to be quite challenging to spend lengthy amounts of time there. Well so far I have been every day. Oh well, it's about the only thing that goes on around here all year long.
Here's Heléna favorite past time at the fair...thankfully I only have one to chase.
We visited Humphrey's Farmyard...

and with the hand pump and ducks. I'm really wishing for one of these at my house. I think it could fill hours of time during nice weather.

Hannah rode a pony. She really wanted to ride the white pony at the bottom of the picture but she wasn't quite ready for riders yet. Ironically her name was Hannah too.

This morning was the parade. Here we come!

For those of you that don't know, the little corner of the Basin that we live in is called Copic Bay.

Each kid dressed up like something they want to be when they grow up. Hannah usually has an opinion, but not about this so she got to be a hay squeeze driver. Mommy and Daddy spent quite a few hours turning her cozy coupe car into a hay squeeze. Heléna again was asleep...on my shoulder.

After the parade we had lunch and watched a Pee Wee Showmanship class. Hannah desperately wanted to be in the ring with her friends. OK, I guess I might have to do something about that for next year. Four suckers later (yes, I said four. I was a long parade ride and preparation, and then someone at a booth gave her one...grrr.) and no nap we left with Hannah screaming and covered in sticky! She's napping now and I'm hoping for a little greasy fair food and a dough boy (elephant ear) for dinner.

Good times in a small town!

What We Did in August...
that I never had time to write a post about.
Changed the wheel lines after third cutting. We are going to have the pleasure of doing it again very soon before fourth cutting.
Went to Train Mountain with Grandma Bevie and Cousin Wyatt.
And the Klamath Fish Hatchery.

Had a birthday.

Hannah seemed to enjoy my birthday more than hers.

I hope you enjoyed my post made up mostly of sentence fragments. My brain is shot for the day. The stove top blew up (no joke, we had sparks and bright lights) last night so we spent a good part of the day in town today finding a replacement. So, sentence fragments are all I can eek out after shopping for an appliance with two kiddos, while trying to make a decision about what stove to get and then how to get it to fit into a hole that is too big. I think my handy husband has gotten it figure out, thankfully! Oh, some day a kitchen remodel!
